At McCartan’s Pharmacy, you may not need to wait for a GP appointment to treat a common health problem. Our pharmacists are trained and qualified to assess, advise, and prescribe treatment for eight common conditions right here in our pharmacy.

Conditions we can help with

• Allergic rhinitis – sneezing, itchy or blocked/runny nose caused by allergies
• Conjunctivitis – red, itchy or sticky eyes
• Cold sores – blisters or tingling around the lips and mouth
• Impetigo – a contagious skin infection causing sores or blisters
• Shingles – a painful rash caused by the chickenpox virus
• Oral thrush – a fungal infection causing white patches in the mouth
• Vulvovaginal thrush – itching, soreness or discharge caused by a fungal infection
• Uncomplicated urinary tract infections (UTIs) – burning or pain when passing urine

How it works at McCartan’s

Simply walk in or book an appointment with our team. One of our pharmacists will have a private, confidential consultation with you, assess your symptoms, and recommend the best treatment. If needed, they can prescribe medication on the spot — no GP visit required.

Please note: A €35 consultation fee applies for all patients, including medical card holders. However, if you are prescribed medication, you may be able to have the cost covered under your medical card or Drugs Payment Scheme. Not everyone will be eligible for this service — your pharmacist will advise you and can refer you to your GP if needed.
